* This Week’s Top Two are… *

• We filled our warm fuzzy jar this week and have all agreed that next Thursday, April 20th will be classroom fort day! All students can bring 1 bed sheet to school to help build a classroom fort for the whole day!

• Field trip to Schlitz Audubon Nature Center, Wednesday, April 26th. I put a second permission slip in today’s folder if I haven’t received it yet. Permission slips are due next Monday, April 17th!

Vlog points for the week include:
• In phonics, we introduced long vowels with a silent e at the end of a word; ā_e (long vowels ā, ē, ī, ō, ū because of the bossy silent e makes the first vowel say it’s name not it’s sound).

• In reading, we read Make a Pizza using our long vowel phonics to help us read a leveled book with me at my reading table.

• In math, we have fully begun subtraction. In subtraction, we draw pictures to show how many but cross out (not erase) things that “go away,” “get eaten,” or “leave.” Then we represent that picture as a number bond and subtraction sentence where we always start with the biggest number (the whole).

• In our chapter book, Toys Come Home, Sheep got thrown into a rose bush on accident and was hanging by one ear! Stingray made a slingshot out of a leg warmer and knocked her out, but Sheep’s left ear ripped off, leaving Sheep with a problem hearing and a new name. The one eared Sheep. Bobby Dot got thrown up on when the little girl got sick. The little girls' dad missed his dry-clean-only tag and put him in the washer and dryer where he got ripped apart and was thrown away! The little girl got a new Walrus for her next birthday, just like Bobby Dot, but his eyes didn’t smile like all the other toys. The little girl knew he wasn’t the same, so she exchanged him for a fuzzy-tailed, brown, and wonderful buffalo who she promptly named Lumfy!

• I hope the take-home books are going well! Students should read the book they take home a few times to really show their amazing hard work to you. When they return to school, they practice with a new book until they feel ready to read independently to you and take it home!

• Lastly, it’s getting hot in here… and I want to make sure all the turtles are properly hydrated! Make sure you are sending water bottles with your student so they are able to keep cool and not thirsty during the day!

• Please, take time to make reading a nightly priority; part of the routine. 15- 30 minutes each night helps young children calm down, and prepare to rest. It also builds vocabulary and amazing memories!
