Mr Dittl's Robots Roundup Vlog for the week of 10 12 2023
************************************************************
* This Week’s Top Two are… *
************************************************************
• The Beagle Dash was a fantastic success! Thank you to all the families that participated in helping Lake Bluff and our amazing PTO!
• Fall Celebration on Tuesday, October 31st. Lake Bluff will have a parade around the school in the afternoon and when we return to our classroom, we will have a fall harvest celebration.
Vlog points for the week include:
• In SEL we looked at examples and talked about how we can listen, what active listening looks like, and how we show with our eyes, ears, and body we are paying attention.
• This week in Phonics we wrote uppercase letters ‘T’, ‘P’, ‘N’, & ‘A’. We continued connecting our letters and sounds using pictures; for example, the sound /p/ is the first letter sound in the word puppy.
• This week in Math we continued to use objects to count enough things & then write the matching number. We played restaurant to match the number of dots to special manipulatives called linking cubes. We also discussed the number ‘0’ and what it means. Today we began introductory addition & subtraction, called composition & decomposition. We represented a number as smaller parts; for example, 5= 2+3.
• We are learning all about apples! We are reading about the apple life cycle, its journey from seed to plant, and all of the delicious ways we enjoy apples. Our classroom needs apple donations next week! We are investigating red, green, and yellow apples for us to see, observe, and even taste!
• We are working on a special project called Original Works. Original Works is a program that transforms original student artwork into a variety of keepsake items. Students will create an original piece of art that we will send home with an order form on October 18th. You can use it to purchase items with your student’s special art on it. These are great gifts or special memories and our participation has helped raise more than $3,000 per year for classroom grants!
**House Keeping:
• Please make sure you are sending your student with 2 snacks every day. We have had some wonderfully generous families donate to our emergency classroom snack box, and we are very grateful, but it is not something we want to use every day all the time.
• Please talk to your students about wearing the cold-weather clothing that you send with them. We have had some students refuse to wear their outdoor clothing or simply take it off outside. This results in lost items and sick students.
• If your student wears necklaces, bracelets, headbands, rings, or any accessory, please tell them it must either be worn or put away. We have had some items lost or traded and that never ends positively.
• Manners. We have been working on using our manners in class, around the playground, and with each other and adults. Specifically, we are practicing “please, thank you”, and asking “What did you say?” instead of responding with “What?!” or “Why?!” when an adult tells a class, small group, or individual to cleanup and put their things away for example. Interacting with kindness and socially accepted norms are key behaviors that build successful adults.
• In Toy Dance Party, Lumfy and Stingray have a fight while playing pretend. Stingray saw a movie and wants to tell everyone what character they will be and how they should play. Lumfy doesn’t like this and ends up tearing a hole in Stingray’s flipper with his buffalo horn. Lumfy apologizes by sewing up the hole while she is sleeping. And just when everything is better, the Little Girl gets a new toy from her Grandpa as a late birthday present.
• I hope you get a chance to keep up with our class with our Vlog news Robot Roundups. You can listen, watch, or both with your student to help start conversations and connect about what happens in our classroom each week!
