Music, When Soft Voices Die

Roger Quilter (1877-1953) - composer
Ruzanna Nahapetjan - soprano
Jochem Geene - piano

Although Roger Quilter studied at the Hoch Conservatory in Frankfurt and was considered part of the Frankfurt Group, the many songs he wrote are utterly English. This has to do with his preference for English poets such as Shakespeare and Percy Bysshe Shelley and with his warm style that remains close to English folk music, full of romance and melancholy. Music, when soft voices die (1926) from the Six Songs op. 25 on lyrics by Shelley's is one of his shortest and most famous songs. A little jewel about the lasting power of memories.
