If you are like me who wants to escape the buzzing streets of Dubai on weekends and unwind after a stressful week at work. Or just step out of the city and explore new places in UAE. Join me on my adventure as I seek new places to visit here in United Arab Emirates.

This time, I will bring you to UAE’s HIDDEN BEACH in Khorfakkan. It is 130 kilometres drive from Dubai, about 1 and a half hours journey to reach Khorfakkan Beach. Located on the east coast of the UAE along the Gulf of Oman, Khorfakkan is a major tourist attraction. There are too many activities here such as parasailing, banana boat ride, jet ski and snorkelling.

We have decided to go for an adventure and visit the hidden island of Khorfakkan! Initial plan was to do snorkelling; unfortunately, we were not able to prepare our snorkelling gears beforehand so we will just go for a swim and enjoy the sea while watching the sunset.

To reach the island, you need to rent a boat. The cost will vary but you can negotiate with the skipper, you can either rent it privately or go on a sharing basis - which is more practical and cost effective. We paid AED50 each for 2-way, sharing the boat with a family. You can stay on the island only until 8:00 PM. You need to take the number of the skipper so you can contact them when you want to go back to Khorfakkan shoreline. The travel time is about 10 minutes.

The view was stunning! The island was not very crowded during our visit. You can actually do barbecue on the island, you just need to bring all your stuff.

What is amazing is the blue glowing lights when you move underwater or when the waves hit the rocks on the shore. This is called bioluminescence. Bioluminescence is the production and emission of light by a living organism, which occurs due to a chemical reaction within the organism’s body. I enjoyed swimming through the flashing dinoflagellates, because it looks like you’re swimming through little flashing stars.

You should note that there is no place to change nor toilet in the island as expected, the changing rooms are only available in Khorfakkan shore.

After swimming, we headed back to Khorfakkan. We need to find a place for our barbecue and headed towards Al Aqah beach. We found a spot and started to prepare our things. It was quite a struggle due to the humid and hot weather at this time of the year. I DO NOT SUGGEST TO DO THIS. It would be fine to do barbecue on Jebel Jais or other mountainous areas where there is some wind and better weather, but not in a beach in the middle of summer. So, after an hour of struggle we were able to eat!

Now time to head home as it is quite late…

It was still a good day away from stress and I was able to relax. Sometimes, you just need to disconnect and take a break. We don’t only need to take care of our physical health but maintaining a balance to keep our mental health is as important.
