City of Brentwood to Break Ground on Sand Creek Sports Complex

BRENTWOOD, CA – The City of Brentwood is excited to announce the groundbreaking of the Sand Creek Sports Complex, a landmark investment in the future of parks and recreation for the community. The invitation-only ceremony will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, officially launching construction on this highly anticipated, multi-phased project.

Strategically located on the north side of Sand Creek Road near Fairview Avenue, the Sand Creek Sports Complex underscores Brentwood’s ongoing commitment to community health, youth athletics, and an enhanced quality of life for all residents. This transformative initiative has been more than 20 years in the making and reflects the contributions of countless staff members and community stakeholders. It will unfold in multiple phases, beginning with the revitalization of 14.5 acres of City-owned land into a state-of-the-art recreational destination.

The first phase of this project will deliver:
• Three full-size, multi-use synthetic turf athletic fields with lighting (lined for both soccer and lacrosse)
• Parking lot improvements
• Restrooms
• Shaded picnic and warm-up area
• Park maintenance and storage building
• Food truck space
• Artistic team photo area
• ADA-compliant pathways, landscaping, and shaded spectator zones

“It’s more than fields and courts, it’s about creating a safe, and accessible space where our youth can grow, thrive, and connect,” said Mayor Susannah Meyer. “I am thrilled to see this vision become a reality and deeply grateful to the many people who helped make it possible.”

The first phase of construction is being led by Robert A. Bothman Construction under a contract approved at $20.1 million. The complex’s innovative and flexible design, developed by Verde Design, Inc., reflects significant public input collected during community workshops and Parks and Recreation Commission meetings.

“The Sand Creek Sports Complex will have an impact that extends far beyond recreation,” said Interim City Manager Darin Gale. “This facility will attract tournaments and visitors, create economic opportunities for local businesses, and enhance Brentwood’s reputation as a destination for families and active lifestyles. It’s a well thought-out investment in both our community and our economy.”

Upon completion, the Sand Creek Sports Complex will serve as a vibrant hub for youth leagues, regional sports tournaments, public gatherings, and everyday recreation.

Construction of this first phase is expected to be completed by spring 2027. Future phases will follow based on available funding and long-term planning goals.

The Sand Creek Sports Complex advances several City priorities, including objectives outlined in the Brentwood Parks, Trails, and Recreation Master Plan and the FY 2022-24 Strategic Plan. As a flagship facility, it will serve Brentwood residents while positioning the City as a competitive host for regional sports and recreation events.
