The Way to Dawei: Hitchhiking from Mawlamyine to Dawei in Southern Myanmar

On Tuesday the 21st of February, my partner and I hitchhiked from Mawlamyine (the fourth-largest city of Myanmar*) to Dawei via the National Highway 8. We made it easy for ourselves and first got a tuk-tuk to the nearest tollgate. From there, we completed the 301-kilometer long journey in one ride with two young men from Mandalay. It was a great experience.

*Some people only know Myanmar as "Burma". But they don't use this name anymore. Mawlamyine used to be called "Moulmein" and Dawei was once "Tavoy". It's all very confusing.
