OUH Radiotherapy Centre @ Swindon - official opening - patient Fred Bassett
The OUH Radiotherapy Centre @ Swindon was officially opened on Wednesday 22 June 2022.
While the celebration marked the official opening of the building, the Centre, run by OUH but based at the Great Western Hospital, will not be fully operational to patients until later in the summer of 2022.
Two radiotherapy patients, Sandra McGlone and Fred Bassett led the cutting of the ribbon alongside representatives from both hospitals and charity Brighter Futures.
OUH has invested £18.4 million in the project and local people donated £2.9 million towards the specialist equipment needed to provide radiotherapy in Swindon.
It houses two state-of-the-art linear accelerators, mostly used for external beam radiotherapy, and a CT scanner.
