Nikolai Minkh - Jazz-waltz ("For lovers")

Really cool piece. Also very fun to play.

Nikolay Minkh (1912 – 1982) was a Soviet composer, conductor, and pianist; one of the founders of Russian jazz and variety music.
Graduated from the Penza Musical College, piano class in 1926 . In 1926 - 1930 studied at the Leningrad Music College, piano and composition from P. B. Ryazanov. When the war started he volunteered to the frontline. After an injury he headed the orchestra of the Krasnoznamenny Baltic Fleet Theatre (1942–1945). Together with V. Vitlin and L. Kruts he composed and staged the operetta Raskinulos more shiroko (The sea stretches wide) in the blockade of Leningrad in 1942.

In 1966–1982 he headed the Variety Instrumental Music Committee of the Moscow Union of Composers, which became the centre of jazz life in the Russian capital. Minkh is the author of compositions for variety orchestra and more than 150 songs.

again thanks to my friend alex for scanning these nice scores. otherwise I would not be able to share the music here.
also a technical detail, if you are interested in the recent sounds, especially concerning the garritan cfx, what you might want to try is to really reduce the width of the stereo image of the microphones. I find that sometimes is sounds very convenient when the stereo image is not all around the head but more centered like in a real life performance. Also what i learned, it is sometimes really helpful to reduce the 3 knobs in the main page, which deal with room sustain etc. Up to this point i never changed them... but they can really help to dry out the sound a bit even tho the reverb is almost too nice not to include in the music ;) another tip I discovered is that it actually makes sense to compress the file a bit because otherwise the dynamic range is simply too high. To me it really doesn't feel necessary to have one insane peak (which doesn't feel like it at all) at one point of the piece which goes for several minutes. I might do a video to show which plugins I am using for that purpose. What I did sometimes so far is to basically smash it in the limiter because the distortion to me is often not noticeable (of course only if we talk about few dB), but even better is to use a SATURATION plugin because it can very nicely condense the whole sound such that one can listen to these pieces in the car, in a loud environment ... etc

also, this one really took me some tries!! It's one of the pieces where one could easily here editing because the piece feels quite cohesive and also it needs several playthroughs such that all the melodic lines and different thumb positions can be remembered. It's the first piece of this composer on this channel too. The harmonies in the first playthrough kind of reminded me of final fantasy or something :)

if you like the piece please leave a like to show the algorithm here that others can hear this nice forgotten music too :)
