Drilling for Boulder Opal
This video details the drilling of an exploration hole in search of Boulder Opal on the Koroit Opal Field in south western Queensland, Australia in July of 2017.
The drill hole successfully recovered precious opal at a depth of 6 metres.
A revolutionary logging technique was also used to read the remnant radioactive signature of opal.
This technique is able to detect the presence of opal as well as discriminating between precious and non precious varieties and differing strata and rock types.
