Echoes of Aloha: Unveiling Punalu'u's Hidden History

Through a unique blend of drone footage, ground shots, historical pictures, and newspaper clippings, go back in time and witness the rich and tragic history of the Punalu'u Village Restaurant. Between 1969 and 1972, the restaurant served as a valued gem for both locals and guests, providing as a site of connection, celebration, and cultural preservation as part of the Sea Mountain 18-hole golf course community. It was destroyed by a tsunami in 1975, but the spirit of the restaurant lives on in our memories and the stories we tell.

The ruins of the Punalu'u restaurant still tell stories of the past. However, plans to rejuvenate the neglected regions surrounding Punalu'u are in the works, with the developer promising to restore the old structures before erecting anything new. The goal is to create a community-led initiative that respects the ecological area while also protecting the site's cultural heritage.
