Van Cleef & Arpels at Watches & Wonders
We had the pleasure of having an interview with Mr Nicolas Bos, President and CEO of Van Cleef & Arpels, during Watches & Wonders here in Geneva.
Three beautiful automatons were shown on their booth. A planetarium, a fountain with two birds and a flower which reveals a bird when it opens. The automatons were of a quite impressive size and were all in search of a new home.
The other highlight of the Van Cleef & Arpels booth were two beautiful wrist watches, obviously set with stones. Their particularity is the way the time is read as there are no hands present on the dial, following their ever so poetic way to tell the time, the dial is made of a three dimensional flower garden, and it is the number of flowers which are opened that tells the time.
To make it even more fun, At each hour passage, all the flowers close to then reopen in a random fashion with the number of flowers open corresponding to the hour, the minutes can be read from the side of the watch.
It comes in two versions, one rose gold with pink flowers and a white gold version with blue flowers.
A beautiful way to represent their tagline "The Poetry of Time".
We hope you enjoy this report and Viva Watchmaking!
