EAR WAX REMOVAL COMPILATION FEATURING EXOSTOSIS - EP177

Compilation of ear wax removals from clinic. All endoscopic ear wax removals were carried out by our principal audiologist Mr Rhys Barber during our ear wax removal clinic.

Patient 1:
Thuis patient attended with reduced hearing to our ear wax removal clinic. We carried out endoscopic microsuction on both ears which relieved the patients symptoms symptoms.

Patient 2:
Thus patient also had reduced hearing due to very dry ear wax present in both ear canals. They attended our ear wax removal clinic to have this removed using endoscopic microsuction. We used both suction and a Jobson Horne to remove the ear wax successfully.

Patient 3:
This patient attended our ear wax removal clinic due to some discomfort and reduced hearing in one ear. On examination the ear canal was very occluded with dry ear wax. On removal we could see the presence of exostosis (surfers ear).

This condition is caused by repeated exposure to cold water causing a build up of bone tissue on top of existing bone. This causes bony growths into the ear canal. The growths themselves do n ot cause any issues but with repeated exposure to cold water they can become big enough to block the ear canal.

This can become problematic if ear wax becomes trapped behind them or if they touch. The treatment at that stage would involve surgically opening up the ear canal.
