STORYLINE:

US Marines pulled back from some positions in Fallujah early on Friday after talks aimed at ending a siege with insurgents holed up in the city.

Marines negotiated a plan to pull back forces _ a move that could lift a siege that has continued for almost a month _ and allow an Iraqi force led by a former Saddam Hussein general to handle security.

Witnesses said US troops moved back from some positions in the western part of the city.

The agreement came after a barrage of international pressure on the United States to prevent a revival of the bloodshed seen in Fallujah during the first two weeks of April.
