Hypersensitivity (type 1 part 1b)
What is Sansamed?
We at Sansamed know that medicine can be difficult at times, understanding basic medical concepts and processes can be very frustrating which brings us to our main goal which will be to produce videos that hopefully would make medicine simpler and more fun to understand.
What is hypersensitivity?
Hypersensitivity reactions are essentially exaggerated response of your immune system in response to a stimulus. There are 4 types (1-4). Hypersensitivity type 1-3 are antibody mediated, while type 4 hypersensitivity is cell mediated. The major differences between them are different antibodies (IgE,IgG or IgM), location of antibodies(fixed or circulating), duration of the reaction (immediate or delayed), type of cell involved (type 4).
What is type 1 hypersensitivity?
Type 1 hypersensitivity mainly describes allergic reactions in which the antibody IgE is the primary mediator. This hypersensitivity give an almost immediate effect, in which the signs and symptoms appear early. Here we see an interaction between APC, T-helper cells, IgE, mast cell and the substances they produce and release.
