Immunology - macrophages nomenclature (part 2/4)
What is Sansamed?
We at Sansamed know that medicine can be difficult at times, understanding basic medical concepts and processes can be very frustrating which brings us to our main goal which will be to produce videos that hopefully would make medicine simpler and more fun to understand.
What is the immune system:
The immune system is an organisms defense mechanism against pathogens (disease inducing microorganisms such as virus, bacteria, fungi, parasites, prions). Our immune system is divided into 2 major parts: innate and adaptive in which we have multiple cells and proteins that constantly works with neutralizing and removing countless pathogens that attack us on daily basis.
What are the names of macrophages?
The nomenclatures (names) of macrophages depend on their location. Therefore it might be difficult to hear all different names, but remember that they are macrophages after all. Examples include Kupffer cells(liver), Osteoclasts (bone), microglia (brain/CNS), Histiocytes (connective tissues) and many more.
