Rudolph Nureyev and Antoinette Sibley - 'Jazz Calendar'
In this footage, Rudolph Nureyev and Antoinette Sibley dance part of a pas de deux from Sir Frederick Ashton’s 1968 'Jazz Calendar’.
What’s particularly interesting about this film is that Sibley talks about her experience of dancing the role with Nureyev - “the sexiest thing I’ve ever done on stage”.
New York Critic Alastair Macaulay has commented "This is Friday’s Child (“loving and giving”) from Frederick Ashton’s “Jazz Calendar” (1968); Sibley and Nureyev were its original cast. Sibley later danced it with Anthony Dowell (“Antoinette and Anthony were love,” said a devotee, “but Antoinette and Rudi were SEX.”) Around 1985, Sibley danced this duet in an Ashton programme at Covent Garden with Fernando Bujones."
Enjoy!
