Russia shrugs off Trump's 100% tariff threat, blames NATO for Ukraine crisis - Lavrov

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Tuesday dismissed US President Donald Trump’s threat to impose 100% tariffs on Russia and its trading partners, asserting Moscow is well-equipped to weather any additional economic pressure.

Lavrov, speaking at a press conference at the 25th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Foreign Ministers meeting in the Chinese city of Tianjin on Tuesday, said he had no doubt that Russia would cope with any new sanctions.

Lavrov argued that Moscow stands ready to continue the negotiations in Istanbul and accused Kyiv of dragging its feet on setting the date for the next round.

US President Trump announced new measures targeting Russia over its ongoing conflict in Ukraine Monday, threatening steep tariffs if a peace deal isn't reached within 50 days.
