In a few instances, I have had the need for a filler, particularly in a situation where I wanted to turn some punky wood that had some provenance. Recently this occurred with a piece of London Plane that had a large patch of soft, punky wood, which wanted to turn a lidded box from but the very soft patches would not provide me with a foundation for abrasive work.

I decided to search for an improvised filler that would overcome this problem but would also take sanding sealer, stain, and a finish.

Eventually, I found that potato starch might fit this requirement and this video is about the trial.
