‘Pathetic media wars’ breaking out over deadly COVID-19 origins

At a time when world leaders demand transparency on the origins of the deadly coronavirus outbreak, “pathetic and partisan media wars” are instead breaking out according to Sky News host Chris Kenny.

“Few stories could be more important in the world right now than the origins of the coronavirus pandemic and China's defiant resistance to an independent investigation,” Mr Kenny said.

He said the diplomatic fallout of the deadly pandemic has seen communist China threaten Australia and lash out at the United States simply because “our government has dared to call for an investigation”.

“Yet even with these issues at stake, we are seeing pathetic and partisan media wars play out”.

Mr Kenny spoke of a story broken by Sky News host Sharri Markson relating to the possible outbreak of COVID-19 in a Chinese laboratory and the suppression of information by the communist regime.

However, the ABC scrutinised that claim on their Media Watch program.

"Extraordinary, while world leaders demand transparency … journalists at our national broadcaster seem to think they already know” the truth about the origins of the deadly virus.

“So, the ABC seems to know it didn't escape the lab, brilliant work, all they need to do is provide some evidence now,” Mr Kenny said.

He said former former foreign minister Bob Carr wanted an "inquiry into Markson's leak ... (and) also claimed to already know the answer" of how the virus originated.

"We don't know, we simply cannot be sure of where this virus came from, and we can't be until there's a full independent investigation," Mr Kenny said.

Mr Kenny also discussed with issue with the Daily Telegraph Editor Ben English who said the story "was a sensational get" by Sharri Markson.
