Being aware of others' needs is the first step towards oneness | Phuong Dinh Toai | TEDxBachDang

In 2000, Father Phuong Dinh Toai of the Camillo lineage went to Thailand to work as a physician for an HIV / AIDS care center. And it was in that place; a story haunted him till later. One evening, while walking in the park as usual, he came across a scrawny, thin, three-year-old child who was picking up a half-eaten cake from the ground. He approached, wanted to get the cake to throw in the trash, and offered to buy the boy food. But the boy quickly took the cake towards the dark corner of the park, where his mother with HIV / AIDS lay dying. He was amazed. Why could a 3-year-old child, having nothing to eat for several days, could bring the cake to his mother without eating it? What made such a young boy forget his hunger and wholeheartedly take care of his mother? That little boy was doing much better than us as adults: knowing and practicing Oneness in order to care and love others. Oneness - not alone, but understanding one's boundaries and connection point with others. Opposite with oneness is not duality, but no boundary, and when having no boundary, you do not know yourself and do not respect nor empathy for others! You can know yourself as one and only, if and only if you recognize others' presence and realize that your actions can have an impact on others. In today's society, we mistook oneness as "Self-reliance," Self-preservation, self-interest, and entitlement. And that causes us to isolate ourselves, rejecting others, and demanding on others .... In fact, that is the tendency of oneself being fragmented. And the ultimate achievement of oneness is not the self but integrity and compassion. Father Phuong Dinh Toai - Priest of the Camillo, is the founder of Mai Tam Shelter - the refuge of hundreds of children and many mothers carrying the century disease: HIV/AIDS.
Furthermore, Father Toai, together with the Faith - Culture group, set up a charity clinic at Mai Khoi monastery. He is also known as a famous psychologist with many lectures on mainstream television.
As a person who has witnessed many tortuous human life situations that HIV and social stereotypes have driven them to the dead end, for Father, they are innocent victims. They must have life opportunities, be given love and happiness. And perhaps, Father's compassion that has persisted for a decade results from the constant struggle between intelligence (IQ) and emotion (EQ).
