What can we teach our children about a happy life? | Phan Thang Huynh | TEDxBachDang
The world is changing faster than ever before, and there are huge global challenges that need to be overcome. One of the biggest challenges is people will soon be replaced by machines in many areas. How can we prepare our children for a world of such unprecedented transformations and radical uncertainties? What can we teach our children about being happy to cope with all that changes and insecures in such an era?
Firstly, we as parents need to nurture our children’s “superpowers”. Your children’s powers are the unique things of each individual which include natural gift and character strength.
Secondly, resilience is the most important skill to cultivate, given the rapid rate of economic and technological change. In other words, our children need to learn how to deal with difficulty in order to improve chances of feeling good again.
Last but not least, in positive psychology research, gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness. Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships. Huynh Phan Thang is currently the founder and director of Meraki Education, Danang. Graduated with a Master's in Organizational Psychology from the City University of New York and a BA in HR and Startup Consulting from Nanyang Technological University, he entered the educational psychology field.
