Winchester, England - England's Anglo-Saxon Capital

Winchester was the first English capital and the site of a great Cathedral founded by Saint Swithin in the ninth century. Author Jane Austen lived the last few weeks of her life in Winchester and is buried in the cathedral. There has been a town in this location since Roman times. Winchester boasts of having the oldest public school in England.
