Rescuers try to free right whale entangled in fishing gear in Gulf of St. Lawrence

While a North Atlantic right whale has been spotted in Canadian waters for the first time this season, it is entangled in fishing gear in the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

It is a critically endangered species, as there are fewer than 360 left on the planet. Since 2017, 40 North Atlantic right whales have died after vessel strikes or entanglements.

Heidi Petracek explains how rescuers are trying to free the whale, known as Shelagh, and what's being done to protect them.
