Lebanon - Chirac Arrives On Historical Visit

On Thursday (4/4) Jacques Chirac became the first French president to pay an official visit to Lebanon since the Mediterranean nation gained its independence from France in 1943. Speaking after his arrival in Beirut, Chirac pledged support for a free and independent Lebanon. Earlier Chirac held talks with Lebanese President Elias Hrawi and was chauffeured across the city to the parliament building by Prime Minister Rafic Hariri.
