Diesel Engine Maintenance Tip 6: Troubleshooting Unhealthy Engine Sounds

Listen to this 300TD turbo diesel engine. It has a sound that is not normal. Some diesel knocking noise is ok - but there are other knocks you need to be concerned about. To determine if the engine knock in this old diesel is internal in the engine or just a loud fuel injector, Kent will perform a live diesel purge. This is part three of a three part series Kent filmed on a 300TD wagon. Due to the noise the owner decided to not fix the car. When Kent opened up the engine the problem turned out to be a badly worn and scored piston. This type of damage almost always requires a complete and expensive engine overhaul.
