A Marine Killed 27 Japanese in a Pillbox #short #history #ww2

Tarawa, November 1943. Pvt. Hawkins Brown was a 24-year-old US Marine. His unit was pinned down by a fortified Japanese pillbox on the beach. He volunteered to clear it. He crawled 47 yards across coral under heavy fire. He pried the pillbox door open with his bayonet. He killed 27 Japanese soldiers inside with grenades and his .45 pistol — fighting in pitch darkness for 14 minutes. Two bullets hit his shoulder. He kept fighting until the pillbox went silent. He died of wounds 4 hours later. He received the Medal of Honor posthumously.
