A Soldier Buried His Wedding Ring on Omaha Beach So Part of Him Stayed With the Fallen #short #ww2

Omaha Beach, June 6, 1944. Cpl. James Devlin landed at 7:14 a.m. By noon he was the only survivor of his original landing team of 31 men. His wedding ring was on a chain around his neck. Before he advanced inland he buried the ring in the sand near the bodies of his friends. He marked the spot with a stone. He told his wife back home: "Part of me stayed there forever." She understood. He visited Omaha 14 times after the war. He never dug up the ring. He never wanted to.
