"THE DARK END OF THE STREET" ARETHA FRANKLIN TRIBUTE (BEST HD QUALITY)

I recently saw the film "Respect". After watching and hearing Jennifer Hudson perform as Aretha Franklin, it is no wonder that the Queen of Soul personally handpicked her to play the role. Aretha Franklin was not only one of the best singers of all time, but also a great cultural icon. Here was a BLACK, WOMAN demanding RESPECT in the 60s. Aretha Franklin as a huge influential force in music cannot be understated. It was she and Ray Charles who fused together Gospel and Rock music. Interestingly during this time it was actually criticized by her church for doing so. Without Aretha there would be no Whitney, Mariah, Celine etc. Franklin won 18 Grammy Awards and is one of the best-selling musical artists of all time, having sold over 75 million records worldwide. As a registered Democrat, Aretha sang for the Inaugurations of Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.
"The Dark End of the Street" was written by Dan Penn and Chips Moman and first recorded by James Carr in 1967. The lyrics are an incredibly poignant .reminder of the constraints of living in a narrow minded world where interracial intolerance was once the norm. The LGBT community could also feel these lyrics recalling how then and still now there is intolerance and relationships must take place in secret. This is Aretha Franklin’s stunning version which was released in 1970 on “This Girl's in Love with You”. Her soulful rendering of this song leaves me breathless. Enjoy! Thanks For Your Comments
