Parts of the Little Zab River near Kirkuk has nearly dried up, leaving just stagnant pools where a flowing river once ran. The water crisis has devastated agriculture—over 70% of summer crops are damaged, and many farmers have stopped planting altogether. Water releases from Dukan Dam are now too low to meet even half the needs of some areas like Kirkuk’s Hawija.
