ABC praised for Disability Day broadcast
Sky News host Chris Kenny has given the ABC rare praise for a radio broadcast given by the network whereby
Disability Affairs Reporter Nas Campanella delivered the report for Disability Day.
"If you've seen much ABC TV news you will know that Campanella is severely visually impaired - she is blind - so how does she read and host a radio current affairs program?" he said.
"Well, she's done it before at Triple J but she hosted The World Today to mark the international day of people with a disability.
"And while she was at it, she explained the technology, not to mention the aptitude, that allowed this to happen."
Ms Campanella explained that an auditory dictation of the news bulletin was fed through her ears as she delivered the report in real-time.
"Great technology, although that would take some mastering, to hear those words and deliver them, as Campanella does, with fluidity and correct expression," Mr Kenny said.
"Anyway, instructive stuff, illuminating for all of us, and no doubt inspiring for young people with disabilities wondering about the limitations on their prospective careers. They just might be lower than you think."
