Johan de Meij - Symphony No. 1 "The Lord of the Rings" (London Symphony Orchestra)

I've only recently come across this work. My mind was COMPLETELY blown even just with that opening fanfare. This has completely opened up what I thought composers were capable of writing, it's just such an amazing piece of music. This was originally a piece scored for wind ensemble, however it was later arranged for symphony orchestra by Henk de Vlieger, which was premiered and recorded in 2001 to coincide with the release of the 2001 film, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. This is one of the staples of the concert band literature, hopefully it can make its way into the core of orchestral literature. I'm also uploading this because it's London Symphony and this specific recording is just so friggin good. I wonder if this is where Howard Shore got some of his inspiration for the film scores, considering both are greatly exciting and wonderful. I'll have to research. Anyway, enjoy this masterpiece.
