Traffic Fines 2025: New Rules and Penalties in India | ISH News
Traffic congestion has become a major problem in India, especially in big cities. This issue has grown rapidly due to the increasing population, urbanization, and the number of vehicles on the road. Because of this, road safety has become a big concern.
Recently, there have been many serious road accidents across India caused by careless driving and people breaking traffic rules. These accidents often lead to the loss of innocent lives. To highlight the importance of road safety, ISH News has also released videos on this issue. You can check them out if you missed them.
In order to reduce road accidents and encourage drivers to follow the rules, the government has recently increased the fines and penalties for traffic violations. Here are some of the major penalties for breaking traffic rules:
1. Drunken Driving
Drinking and driving is a serious crime. If caught for the first time, you will have to pay a fine of Rs 10,000 or spend up to 6 months in jail. If you repeat the offense, the fine increases to Rs 15,000, and you could face up to 2 years in jail.
2. Mobile Phone Use While Driving
Using a mobile phone while driving is dangerous. If caught, you will have to pay a fine of Rs 5,000.
3. Riding Without a Helmet
Earlier, the fine for not wearing a helmet was only Rs 100. Now, it has been increased to Rs 1,000, and your license could be suspended for 3 months.
4. Driving Without a Valid License
If you are caught driving without a valid license, you will have to pay a fine of Rs 5,000.
5. Triple Riding on Two-Wheelers
Riding a bike with three people is now fined Rs 1,000.
6. Driving Without Valid Insurance
If you drive without valid insurance, you will be fined Rs 2,000. You may also face 3 months in jail or be asked to do community service (such as cleaning public places or helping the traffic police). If caught again, the fine doubles to Rs 4,000.
7. Dangerous Driving and Over-speeding
Careless or speeding driving now comes with a fine of Rs 5,000.
8. Blocking Emergency Vehicles
You must always give way to emergency vehicles like ambulances or fire trucks. If you don’t, you will have to pay a fine of Rs 10,000.
9. Overloading of Vehicles
Truck and commercial vehicle drivers should be aware that overloading their vehicles will now cost them a fine of Rs 20,000.
10. Jumping Traffic Signals
Jumping a red light will now cost you Rs 5,000, up from the earlier fine of just Rs 500.
11. Juvenile Offences (Under 18 Years)
If a minor (under 18) commits a traffic violation, the penalties have become much stricter. Instead of a Rs 2,500 fine, the new punishment includes:
- A fine of Rs 25,000
- Up to 3 years in jail
- Vehicle registration canceled for 1 year
- No driving license until the age of 25
As we can see, the government is taking strict measures to ensure road safety and prevent accidents. It is important that everyone follows traffic rules to make our roads safer. Let’s drive carefully, follow the rules, and avoid accidents for the safety of ourselves and others.
