Balochistan Leaders Declare Independence from Pakistan | ISH News

May 2025 – In a major update from Pakistan's troubled Balochistan region, nationalist leaders have declared independence and asked India for support. This comes shortly after India’s reported “Operation Sindoor”, which has increased internal problems in Pakistan.
Baloch activist and writer Mir Yar Baloch shared strong posts on social media, showing people waving Baloch flags and holding maps of an “Independent Balochistan.” He said, “PM Narendra Modi ji, you are not alone, you have the support of 6 crore Baloch people.” He also asked India to open a Balochistan Embassy in New Delhi and requested the United Nations to recognise Balochistan and help with money to create currency and passports.
A social media trend has started with the hashtag #BalochistanIsNotPakistan, and protests have increased. Baloch activists even requested to rename Jinnah House in Mumbai to “Balochistan House” as a symbol of support.
Meanwhile, the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for a deadly attack on 9th May, in which they say 14 Pakistani soldiers were killed in Panjgur district. A video of the attack was also released. The BLA has asked India for weapons to fight against Pakistan.
This situation is complex. While many Baloch people live in Pakistan, some also live in parts of Afghanistan and Iran. A popular map of Balochistan shared online includes these regions, raising questions about how realistic this new country idea is. Will Iran and Afghanistan give their land? That’s difficult.
Also, the USA has listed BLA as a terrorist group, and China will oppose Balochistan’s independence due to its big projects in the area.
Experts say India could take a soft step by allowing a Balochistan office in Delhi, as a show of support. Later, India can build international support slowly.
In an old video, India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval had said, “If Pakistan tries something like the Mumbai attacks again, they could lose Balochistan.”
For now, India has not given any official response. But the Baloch issue is again in the spotlight — and the world is watching.
