6 Amazon Scams To Watch Out For in Calls, Texts and Emails (April 2024)

Amazon scams coming in via phone calls, text messages and emails are common. Here in April 2024, I decided to do a rundown of six of the popular Amazon scams that were going around at the time. These scams can be in ads that appear on Amazon's website (although this seems rare), as well as the following false claims: your Amazon account has been hacked, there has been an unauthorized charge on your account, you are due a refund but oops we overpaid and need you to send some money back to us at Amazon, your Amazon package is undeliverable and you need to make a payment to ensure it reaches your home and finally... a text message saying your bank has been charged for Amazon Music.

In this video, the first Amazon scam I look at is about full-screen takeover ads that may appear on any website. One user said they were visiting Amazon.com and a scam took over their screen saying it was Apple Support and that they needed to call a phone number to resolve a threat issue. However, this was simply an ad that had code to do the full-screen takeover. The best thing to do in this case is to close the window. Don't call the phone number.

The second Amazon scam is about if you have received a phone call, email or text claiming your account has been hacked. The scammers will likely ask for login information or payment details. Don't fall for this.

The third Amazon scam is when scammers call, email or text saying there was an unauthorized charge on your account. If you want to verify whether or not a message like this is legitimate, simply find an official and trustworthy way to contact Amazon to ask. Don't trust scammers and their phone number they gave you. Their number goes directly to them. Remember: they are pretending to be Amazon.

The fourth Amazon scam is when scammers pretending to be Amazon will call, text or email you saying you are due a refund. Once they initiate the supposed refund, they claim they accidentally overpaid and need you to give them some of the money back. Of course, there is no refund and scammers are just out for your money.

The fifth Amazon scam is a delivery issue call, text or email. This probably usually comes in the form of a text. Don't believe this. The scam will likely ask you to visit a scam website that looks like Amazon.com but is not Amazon.com. Don't give away payment information.

The sixth Amazon scam is a text message claiming your bank is issuing a fraud alert about a charge for Amazon Music. These bank text alert scams are common. Scammers claim to be your bank. They don't know who you bank with. They just hope enough customers for the associated bank receive the scam texts and believe them. Don't fall for it. Do not call the scammers' phone number that they include in their messages.
