So we don’t just save wild horses but wild burros too. Just like wild horses are being cleared off public lands in favor of cattle and mining interests so too are wild donkeys. Most of the western states have herds of these wild burros who are incredibly intelligent, hardy and beautiful. Sadly they are being rounded up by the thousands and many are ending up in kill pens and livestock auctions waiting to ship to slaughter in Mexico and Canada. Most of the donkeys on our 9000 acre sanctuary in Oregon are either families from BLM corrals we have saved to keep them together or were in the slaughter pipeline. If you have any land and can’t take a horse please consider a donkey or two. They are pretty much the friendliest, cutest, smartest animals in the world and are much overlooked. They don’t even have a donkey emoji which just shows how little people think about them. Adopt, rescue, sponsor - all ways to help.
