Exploring Negative Space || Nikon Z6 and Z50 || Wildlife Photography
Negative Space is the area surrounding subjects, and although it isn't your direct subject, it is extremely influencial in how your subject may be viewed.
In this video I delve into negative space; defining it and looking at different techniques that photographers can use to provide different types of negative space and exploring why you NEED to learn to love it, because it will improve your photography!
If you are wondering 'how to use negative space in photography' or more specifically 'minimal nature photography' or 'Minimalism in photography'. Then this may give you some ideas to head out and shoot with and then see where you can go from there? It's all about experimenting, trying new things and seeing what you can make from them.
The styles that I touch on are in this video are: giving the subject room to breathe, extreme negative space, contextual negative space and graphic negative space. There are obviously far more styles that could be adopted and it could be a good idea to look back at your own work to try and define your use of negative space for yourself. Having this information could come in useful when you're out in the field and want you image to have a certain look.
