Real Coast: the issue of depopulation in South Uist – 5 News

In rural Scotland depopulation is becoming a real problem with one report saying the number of people of working age will tumble by a third over the next 30 years.

Nowhere is the problem more apparent than in the Outer Hebrides, at its height a century ago the population was nearly 47,000. By the last census in 2011 that had dropped to less than 28,000.
