Afghanistan: Families desperate to leave remain stuck at Kabul airport | DW News

Desperate scenes at Kabul airport: Afghans pass a baby to US soldiers over airport wall, as thousands gather outside waiting to be rescued.

The effort to evacuate foreigners and Afghan nationals from Afghanistan is in full swing, a NATO official told Reuters news agency. The official said more than 18,000 people have been evacuated since Sunday. But many families desperate to leave the country remain stuck at Kabul airport.

Afghan refugees also arrived in India. India’s government first said that it would prioritize taking in Hindus and Sikhs from Afghanistan. India has now introduced a new visa category in view of the unfolding situation in Afghanistan, called the "e-Emergency X-Misc Visa", available to all Afghans irrespective of their religion.
