SHORT: A Sculpture Trail in Rutland [545]

The once-thriving marble industry put Rutland on the map in the late 1800s. The Downtown Rutland Sculpture Trail hopes to celebrate this history with a series of about ten sculptures which will be created over the next 4-5 years. Organized by Rutland Blooms, the works are being carved in marble by artists at the Carving Studio and Sculpture Center in West Rutland.

Two sculptures are already downtown, The Jungle Book is outside Phoenix Books and Stone Legacy is in the newly reopened Center Street Marketplace Park. Three sculptures celebrating notable Rutland residents are in progress at CSSC and will be unveiled in Sept-Oct. The organizers hope to draw visitors to the downtown to enjoy these works of art and to learn more about the area's colorful history.

You can follow the I Love Rutland, VT Facebook page to find out when the next three sculptures will be unveiled, probably in September and October.
