Trombone Improvisation | James Hall
A proof of concept verifies the actual feasibility of any concept or idea. That term kept coming to mind last November as we followed a trombone-wearing James Hall from the Great Hall to the Box Canyon.
For several months, we had been working towards a new film concept that would feature some of our contributors (primarily musicians … but also others) performing and collaborating in a distinctively Laity Lodge setting. The Box Canyon had emerged as the working idea for the place. Now we just needed to try it out.
So here was James Hall, far, far away from his Brooklyn home, walking into a remote canyon in the Texas Hill Country. The extent of our plan upon reaching the canyon was to “try something.” We turned the cameras on, and James started to improvise. As odd as a trombone solo in the middle of nowhere might be, we celebrated the concept proven.
