The SacActun system, also known as "White Cave" in Mayan, is situated 9 miles (15 km) from Tulum. This underground cave system is the longest in Mexico and it is the second longest in the world. This underwater system is quite distinct because it has over 248 cenotes embedded within it. These cenotes, which are sinkholes, are used as the entryway of the cave, make up this large cave system. Here we have the Sac Actun Cenote and Cenote Dos Ojos, among others. Within the Sac Actun, you can find animal fossils in large quantities to show the preserved history that has been here for several ages. This earned the cave the name, "Pet Cemetery".
