A 42-year-old daredevil cave diver set out on his silver jubilee cave diving celebration at El Dudu Lagoon. He was diving with another advanced diver and friend. However, while making their exit, a narrow side passage posed a threat to his safety.
Introduction to the Cave
El Dudu Lagoon, a stunning natural spot in the Dominican Republic, is located over 100 mi (161 km) away from Santo Domingo. It's essentially a big hole in the ground surrounded by beautiful scenery. Getting there is easy with stairs made of cement that take you down to the water. The surface of the water is great for swimming, especially on the left side. As you swim around, you'll find a long tunnel and a cavern. The tunnel goes about 328 ft (100 m) in, and there's a big open area about 154 ft (50 m) inside. The first part of the cavern has a really tall and wide tunnel with cool decorations that look dark and stained. One column in there is super tall—over 49 ft (15 m)! The deepest part of the lagoon is about 66 ft (20 m). When you reach the end of the main tunnel, there's a steep slope going up about 20 ft (6 m). At the top, the path splits. To the right, there's a pocket of air, but you can't go outside from there. To the left, the cave keeps going, inviting you to explore more.
