Karl Peters was born on March 17, 1920, to Frank and Oma Peters. He was a dedicated farmer and rancher for 70-plus years.

Karl graduated from Cameron College in 1941. He attained his pilot's license and entered the Army Air Corps in 1941. Karl piloted C-47, B-25, and P-38 aircraft panning five battles (Northern Solomon's, Bismarck Sea, New Guinea, Western Pacific, and Leyte Gulf) while serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Theater.

Attaining the rank of Major, he was also the most decorated member of the Army Air Corps' 13th Troop Carrier Squadron. He was awarded the Air Medal eight times, Distinguished Flying Cross, WWII Victory Medal, and a Citation for Meritorious Achievements in Aerial Operations presented by President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
