In this video guitar lesson series I will show you how to play "Run Like Hell" off of Pink Floyd's The Wall album note-for-note.
First off, I know the delay times are pretty essential to the sound of this song, so I have included a short little guitar tone PDF listing a pretty good way of approximating David Gilmour's tone on this song. Now I know there are a lot of tone heads out there that can argue about this kind of thing for days on end, but I am not one of them. This guide is simply for the player who has no real idea of how that guitar tone is being achieved. If you feel you can get a tone closer to Gilmour's using different settings, GREAT! :)
Now let us get to the lessons shall we? The first video lesson demonstrates the entire intro including the main riff and any fills, all the way until the vocals come in.
The main thing to focus on here, and the reason why I turned the delay off for the lesson portion of the video, is get the rhythm pattern down. This rhythm pattern is used throughout a majority of the song with just a few slight 16th note variations thrown in.
Throughout the first video lesson, I will demonstrate where those variations happen and how to memorize them easily.
Along with the rhythms we will also be tackling those descending triad chords. I do my best to perform those chord parts and the muted rhythmic parts at the same type even though they are performed separately on the original recording.
Now even though the use of the 6th string is not required for the first video lesson, be sure to tune it down to "D" before tackling the second lesson video below.
In the second video lesson I will demonstrate the massive sounding delayed guitar chords used during the vocal sections as well and the melodic rhythmic guitar part that is constantly be played over them.
Hope you guys enjoy this Pink Floyd classic!!
