This Mother guitar lesson will demonstrate how to play all of this Pink Floyd classic note-for-note.

I have split the lesson into two videos. One covers all the chords and chord progressions and the second video will demonstrate how to play David Gilmour's incredible guitar solo. :)

The most challenging aspect of learning "Mother" will probably be some of the odd rhythms. The chords themselves are with just one exception, simple open position chords. Within the first lesson video lesson I will demonstrate an easy way to feel the rhythm instead of having to do a bunch of counting. I am pretty sure this is how Roger Waters felt the rhythm anyway.

Within those strummed rhythm chords you will also be adding a few hammers-ons. They aren't very difficult to play except for the fact that you need to be able to time then correctly. When I demonstrate the verse I will show you the proper picking pattern and how it build up to the hammer-on so you will know exactly where to place it in the rhythm.

For guitar players though, the real star of the show is David Gilmour's instantly recognizable guitar solo. This solo lesson will break the entire guitar solo down into phrases that you can study one at a time.

I encourage you to not only learn the notes of this solo, but also to pay attention to how it is constructed. It is a fantastic example of creating a musical statement that tells a story on it's own. If you really listen to it you can hear that it has a definitive beginning, middle and ending musically. It is, simply put, a perfect musical statement from beginning to end. In fact, even if you have never heard this solo before, after listening to it a couple times I am sure you will easily be able to hum along with it. Pure genius!

Of course, we are talking about David Gilmour here. He seems to be to create memorable guitar solos in his sleep. The guitar solo in "Mother" is just another fine example of this.

Hopefully you guys can get through the videos in a relatively quick fashion. As long as you listen to the chord progressions and try to follow along with the original recording, playing them in time should come pretty quickly.

As for the solo, once again it is pretty short but sweet. Good Luck!

Carl..
