Ukraine launches drone attacks on 5 Russian regions: Kursk hit hardest
On Tuesday night, Ukraine launched a large-scale drone attack targeting five regions in Russia, according to the Russian Defense Ministry. A total of 115 drones were reportedly intercepted and destroyed by Russian air defenses. The majority of the drones, 109 in total, were shot down over border Kursk region. Additional drones were intercepted over Voronezh (3), and one each over the Moscow, Bryansk, and Oryol regions. The attack on Kursk resulted in the death of an 85-year-old woman and left nine others injured. The injured suffered from shrapnel wounds, head trauma, and burns. Several residential buildings caught fire, including a high-rise where the upper floors were severely damaged. In another building, five floors were burned. Authorities reported that metal fragments, including steel balls, were discovered at one of the attack sites. Some residents were relocated to temporary housing due to the damage. A drone also hit an ambulance garage, damaging 11 emergency vehicles, while three private homes were struck elsewhere in the city. This drone offensive comes in the wake of a deadly Russian missile attack on Sumy, Ukraine, on April 13. That strike involved two ballistic missiles carrying cluster munitions, killing 34 people and injuring more than 100. Emergency services are still working at the scene.
