We know Rolex is a robust "tool watch" but what about other watch brands like Audemars Piguet, Panerai, Omega and others? One viewer is wondering how fragile watches from AP are, and if there's any merit to the rumor. Today we also address the secrecy in the watch industry, as I discuss why watch dealers and watch collectors are so secretive. The reality is not as ominous as you may think. Many are aware of Gerald Genta's brilliant watch designs. Audemars Piguet's Royal Oak and the Patek Philippe Nautilus are often the two most mentioned but there are so many more designs, that it's difficult to keep count. I suppose we can compare Gerald Genta to Abdul Mati Klarwein, who was referred to as the "unknown famous artist." His paintings were used in 51 album covers of popular artists and groups from 1955 to 2005, including artists like Miles Davis, Carlos Santana and Jimi Hendrix, yet no one knew him by name. With Genta, few know the man but as long as they know the watches, right? AP and Patek are big names and IWC happens to be among them. Genta did a total redesign of the IWC Ingénieur watch in 1976. The watch was originally created in 1955, when IWC sought to create "a Swiss engineer watch for heroes." After the war, engineers and scientists were regarded as such and IWC wanted to create an antimagnetic watch, that could withstand shock, vibration, and magnetic fields because the average wristwatch was no longer reliable. Genta's version was the Ingenieur SL Automatic, Reference 1832. It features his signature style, inspired by the traditional diving helmet, just like the Royal Oak. 🐟

Fun fact: "Ingénieur" means "engineer" in German.

⚙️ I have the Rolex Sea Dweller 4000 (Ref # 116600) and would like to get your opinion. How many of them do you think are out there? What are your views on the future collectability of this model and where do you see it potentially trading at in the long term?

⚙️ Being that box and papers have been a big issue over the last decade, what is the newest watch you would hesitate buying because it didn't have box and papers? I recently saw a 2020 six-figure AP with no papers. How can this be possible? Did his dog eat them?

⚙️ What other brands are just as robust and well-made as Rolex and still attainable? (Excluding RM) I have heard that AP's are somewhat fragile. Is this true?
