An angel on earth || Loki - forever loved and missed 💔

Today we want to share this video for our extraordinary horse Loki, that touched our lifes deeply for a short time. It was way too short.
We are still in shock and deep grief.

Thank you very much for your honest and deep compassion, for those who have already read about our loss. This carries us through the time right now.

When we met Loki for the first time, we knew that this horse is extraordinary in many ways and has a very kind and old soul. Every day with him was a joy and blessing and I am very thankful I got to know him.

It's so hard to realize, that Loki isn't here anymore. My heart shouts for answers: "WHY?"
But I stop searching, because there is no answer. It's like looking for air in vacuum.

As you might know we were on a trail ride through the Austrian mountains with our horses the last week. As the mountains are, life is an up and down. After a week with bright and beautiful moments it suddenly became very dark for me/us.

The 26.06.21 was the last day of our ride and we suddenly came into a thunderstorm, which made horses and riders tense.
6 kilometer before our final destination, we had to go through a tunnel, which we already went through the day before without any problems.
I went with a good feeling in the tunnel because I felt so much TRUST for my wonderful horse Loki, who was just calm and listening perfectly.

There were two horses were in front of Loki, and the others were behind us. At one point I felt a lot of tension from behind, because one horse spooked and I felt something is coming from behind FAST. I felt helplessness. I have never been in my live so afraid of dying.
I knew if I don’t do anything I would die. So when I felt the horse behind us take off and run into us, I had to let go Loki, otherwise that horse would have run full speed into both of us. It was horrific to hear the sounds and the crack. I knew something very bad has happened during the collision with the other horse and the wall.

The darkest moment for me was when I saw my horse at the end of the tunnel. Bettina had found him and walked him the last third of the tunnel outside and he stood there, beautiful as he was.
When I saw his several times broken front leg my body nearly collapsed. I had to cry and shout because the reality hurt so much. Aniela, another girl from the group could hold him. I felt only so much pain and darkness in my heart to see him like this.. suffering and knowing that there was absolutely no chance for him.

I’m thankful that I got support from my friends. I immediately decided that Loki has to be released as fast as possible - we all knew. We immediately called the emergency, our local contact person and the vet.
Both injured people were immediately driven to the hospital.
Because the vet couldn’t come quickly, we decided that a very experienced hunter has to release him.
When I walked to Loki the last time I felt calm and I knew that’s the moment of saying goodbye. He blew his air in my hairs and for one moment everything was alright again. Then he got killed, I wasn’t there but Aniela guided him strongly and calmly through the transition.
Bettina and Don where the whole time beside Loki, too to make it as smooth as possible.
The other horses are all in all well beside smaller injuries. The two injured people have no life threatening injuries and will recover. The horses and humans who were behind the horse which took off, are alright and stayed calm. We want to send everyone in the team a lot of love.

I am still in shock.
The reason why we share this with you, is because we always share the beautiful moments which are sooo many. So we also want to tell you the truth about this horrible accident. We want tell you the details about it, to prevent rumours and wish that you handle this story responsibly.

We can hardly believe it. We had two very extraordinary horses that we lost in completely different circumstances - Makaio & Loki. They were both incredible and so loved. We don’t understand that anymore why they were taken from us so early, they were so perfect.

We will always honour my horse Loki.
With his calm reaction he saved my live. He was an angel on earth and I will love him so much - forever ❤️

He is irreplaceable.
Equipment can be replaced, broken bones can be healed but our friend Loki can’t come back again... 😔

We still haven't really realized it. I guess, this is why this video is so much in colour - because we remember him so alive.
