The end of the combustible gas guzzling engine is near. In its place comes ecofriendly battery powered vehicles with autonomous self driving capability. Tesla is leading the way by miles but other electric vehicle makers are creating waves and investment opportunities are exponential.

The general consensus had been that electric vehicles were 10 - 20 years away from relevance. Current legacy automakers had an insurmountable lead. Then Elon Musk stepped on the scene with what experts would coin as a disruptive innovation. His company Tesla lost billions of dollars creating a vertical auto manufacturing facility, innovative battery technology, integrated artificial intelligence and creating electric vehicles that were scalable. However, they have now turned a profit.

Other electric vehicle makers are poised to follow Tesla's lead. Some of these companies include Nikola, Electrameccanica and Lucid Motors to name a few. However, the real winners appear to be the electric vehicle makers in China. This is partially true because China has announced that 20% of all car sales will be electric vehicles by 2025. This is significant because this commitment means China will support the electric vehicle industry in their country and do everything to ensure that it is successful.

NIO is touted as the next Tesla of China. Their SUV styled vehicles accounts for about 12,206 sales in Q3 2020. Their average sales prices was slightly above $50,000. Note that NIO's vehicles are manufactured in a government owned facility. The agreement is through 2023 for the manufacturing to continue at this facility. NIO received a $1 billion dollar bailout by a local Chinese government. Now they have an equity ownership stake in the company. Despite this fact. NIO is distinguishing itself from its competitors. First the company has mobile charging units that will drive to NIO vehicle owners to ensure they have adequate energy for their vehicles. Also, they have facilities where the vehicles are brought in and the batteries are swapped in 90 second to 3 minutes. They further distinguish themselves by offering paid subscriptions to upgrade batteries and for auto piloting services. Like Tesla, they plan to offer driverless taxis called Robotaxis and they are collecting live data to improve the performance of their vehicles. Their investors have seen huge profits.

Xpeng has the P7 model that looks like the Tesla Model X. They even have a smaller model G3. Xpeng like NIO has financial ties to local government in China. However, in conjunction with support from a local Chinese government they are also supported by Alibaba, the Amazon of Ching. They have exported vehicles to Europe. This distinguishes them from competitors. The G3 has semi autonomous models with artificial intelligence. Note that the P7 is $40,000 cheaper than the Tesla Model X. Since the IPO investors have seen significant growth.

LI Auto is supported by ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok. They have their own manufacturing facility and they are fully able to scale their vehicle similarly to Tesla. They distinguish themselves because their vehicles are electric and gas based. The vehicle batteries recharge themselves while the car is on the move. This minimizes mileage anxiety or the fear that the vehicle will exhaust all electric energy. They have the smallest batter of the 3 manufacturers. This space can be used for storage. They sold around 10,400 vehicles. Their gross profit margin was 8% in Q1 2020. They plan to manufacture up to 100,000 vehicles per year soon. They have also rewarded their investors through growth in their market value.

Based on my research all of these makers are a buy right now. Their values are sure to continue to grow. Note that each investor will have to complete their own due diligence prior to deciding to purchase stock in any of these companies.
