France fighting for free speech following Islam terror attack: Brendan O’Neil

Spiked Online Editor Brendan O’Neil says free speech is under attack in France by “woke people and radical Muslim leaders” who are jointly pushing the idea that it is “evil and wrong to criticise Islam”.

He told Sky News host Andrew Bolt Muslim leaders were “playing a deeply cynical game” following a string of terror attacks across France – with three people killed in a recent attack on a Nice basilica.

“On the one hand they’re saying its terrible someone was beheaded,” Mr ‘Neil said.

“But on the other hand they are whipping up their own populations by saying to them essentially France is doing something evil, France is allowing people to insult the prophet, that is unacceptable, that is hate speech and it’s a punishable form of speech.

“But what’s really striking is how many people in the west share their outlook.”

He pointed out Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau issued a statement saying people living in France should have freedom of speech, however, there must be a limit with people not permitted to go around insulting certain religious groups.
